Re: Google Toolbar
Instructions
Revised: August 9, 2004
The Google Toolbar is an
effective pop-up blocker and useful search bar. The Google Toolbar is the only toolbar/pop-up blocker we
recommend. It can be configured to not
send out any information, therefore is not considered spy-ware.
Many other toolbars and pop-up
blockers (such as HotBar and MySearch) are harmful spy-ware programs and should
be removed from your computer.
Spy-ware is a general term for
programs that surreptitiously monitor your
actions. They can slow down your
computer, cause unwanted pop-ups, and
may gather personal information (without your knowledge) and relay it to advertisers, spammers or other
interested parties.
In order to detect spy-ware and
keep your computer running smoothly, we recommend running Spybot and Ad-Aware at
least once per month.
Below are instructions on how to
download and install the Google Toolbar.
Go to http://toolbar.google.com and choose
Download Google Toolbar. When finished,
run the GoogleToolBarInstaller and follow the instructions. When asked how to configure the Toolbar,
choose “Don’t send information to Google”.
When using some web sites,
clicking on a link will sometimes launch another browser window. To the Google Toolbar, this may appear to
be a pop-up advertisement.
If you are trying to open a
link and having trouble, you may need to press the Ctrl key and then click on
the link you are trying to open. This
bypasses the pop-up block feature of the Google Toolbar and will allow you to
open links that open separate browser windows.
