Re: Passive FTP Instructions
Background
Educomp customers using UNIX-based Proxy servers will be unable to do FTP (File Transfer Protocol) to the Internet unless they reconfigure their FTP programs.
You must use Passive FTP connections rather than Active FTP connections in order for the firewall to allow access.
Instructions
To configure Internet Explorer to use Passive FTP, do the following:
In Internet Explorer, click Tools – Options.
In the Internet Options panel, choose Advanced and scroll down until you see the check box named “Use Passive FTP (for firewall and DSL modem compatibility)”
Place a check in this box (see below), then click OK.

Note: The Microsoft DOS (command line) version of
FTP will observe the Passive FTP
setting if it is set in Internet Options.
If you are using a 3rd party FTP program such as WS-FTP, you will also need to onfigure Passive FTP.
To change the setting in WS-FTP, do the following:
Open WS-FTP.
In the session properties, choose Advanced and check the box “Passive
transfers”
Note: You may need change this setting
for each Session Properties that you use.
